How do I switch out my electric smoke alarms for battery-powered ones?
We recently moved into a new house that has electric smoke alarms wired up into the ceiling. They are overly sensitive and go off even when I’m burning a candle (ruined a good nookie session with my husband!). I’d like to replace them with battery powered ones, but not sure how to disconnect the electric ones.
I can’t figure out how to unplug them…the wires go clear into the ceiling, as if they were installed by the house builder…
Chances are that any smoke alarm will do the same thing. If the candles are the same ones you used elsewhere without this problem, it may be a matter of room size or location.
Hardwired alarms are much better as they are usually all on the same circuit. If there is a fire on the first floor not only will that one go off, but so will the upstairs alarms. I’ll bet you already knew that though!. That is a very important safety feature that you won’t have with battery only units. A safer solution would be to buy smokeless candles in my opinion. Sorry about your nookie session. Sometimes they can be hard to come by.
