For artists, what is just an exceptional way to use light and shadow?
I’m trying to draw a Christmas Eve picture for a calendar I am going to give to my mom. I’d like it to have a warm feeling, so I added another young boy holding a candle. That was all it looked like. Boring. I wanted to capture the light. I don’t know where to put it(you see, I go to an art class but I am one of the students who really need improvement)! If you can help, try not to give me some results that are hard to understand because I am not old and need too much art supplies because I do not have all of them. Thanks!
position the candle in front of boy and highlight face an hands to reflect the candle glow.
shade all other areas of boy by light to dark going from front to back.
you don’t say what you medium is (pencil?pastel????)
see artist examples such as norman rockwell for that awww feeling.
practice light and shadow by using pencil or charcoal, set up a still life and shade only the shadows you see creating an sort of negative effect.
On computer go to paint program and use paint brush and/or spray can to
do a picture and then reverse on effects tool bar, or import and reverse a picture.
